COPPA

This documentation applies to zIFBoards only.

COPPA, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, is a law enacted which governs websites based within the United States of America. All zIFBoards forums are hosted by servers within the USA, hence the law applies to them.

The law prevents websites to retain the personal information of any users who are under the age of thirteen(13) years old unless there is parental consent.

If you discovered any users under the age of 13 who have not completed a COPPA registration form, you are legally obligated to delete them from your forum. Failure to do so may result in closure of your forum by zIFBoards.

Users under the age of 13 are not permitted to register their own forum. The consequence for this will be board closure by zIFBoards.

Enabling COPPA

If you enable the COPPA system upon registration, users under the age of 13 will be allowed to use your board once their parents have signed and returned to you the COPPA form.

To enable the COPPA system, log into your Admin CP and click on the General Configuration link in the navigation menu.

Scroll down, and for the Use COPPA registration system? option, set to Yes. You will also need to enter a fax address and/or a mailing address. These will be publicly visible.

Click Submit Changes.
