X-Chat HowTo

X-Chat offers several levels of support. For general questions, see the X-Chat for Windows FAQ. The X-Chat forums are found here and documentations can be found here. You may also get support over the X-Chat IRC channel.

Server: irc.xchat.org Channel: #xchat.

When you first launch X-Chat, you will see a Server List pop up. First, you should fill in your username information. In the server list below that, select FreeNode from the list. You should then click Connect. The image below may help show you what to do.

After you have connected to FreeNode, you should then type the command /join #zetaboards. This will take you the ZetaBoards IRC channel, where you should then register your nickname. For more information on registering you nick, see this page.

The two most common questions asked are how to autoconnect to a server/channel and how to auto-identify when you join a channel.

To autoconnect to #zetaboards when you run X-Chat, do the following:

1. Open up your server list by clicking on the XChat tab on the top bar. Click on Server List.
2. Find Freenode in the server list, and click on it. On the side panel to the right, click edit.
3. Under the Connecting section, click the checkbox for Auto connect to this server at startup.
4. In the Channels to Join area, type in #zetaboards. Now click close and your done. #zetaboards will now open when you start X-Chat.

3. In the area up above, find the field labeled Nickname. Enter the nickname you previously registered.
4. On the side panel to the right, click edit.
5. Under the Connecting section, find the field labeled Nickserv password. In this field, enter your password for your nick. Click on close and your done. You will now be auto-identified when you join #zetaboards.
