Domain Setup: NameCheap

This tutorial assumes that you have left the default nameservers set to NameCheap's (If you don't know what this means, you probably don't need to worry).

To get started, log into your NameCheap account. Enter the name of the domain you wish to modify. Click All Host Records.

Using your Whole Domain

If you wish to point your whole domain (Such as yourdomain.com) to your board, as opposed to using a subdomain (Such as forums.yourdomain.com), follow the steps below. If you're wanting to use a subdomain, skip to the Using a Subdomain section. You now have two options.

  1. For the entry with Host set to @, click on the menu and select A record. From here, enter the IP Address of the server your zIFBoards or ZetaBoard's board is hosted on in the IP Address/URL box.. You can find the appropriate IP Address on the Server IP List.
  1. You can also choose to edit the line with Host set to www, just click on the menu and select CNAME record. From here enter the server name of the server your board is hosted on in the IP Address/URL box. For example, if your board's URL starts with s3.zetaboards.com, you would enter s3.zetaboards.com in this box.

Using a Subdomain

If you're not wanting to point your whole domain.com to your board, but instead want to use a subdomain (Such as forums.domain.com), you should use only a CNAME record instead.

  1. Look for the section called Subdomain Settings. There will be multiple blank records to edit, but only one should have a Host of “www”. For the entry with Host set to www, click on the line (not the check box however) and edit the URL under Points To. From here enter the server name of the server your board is hosted on. For example, if your board's URL starts with s3.zetaboards.com, you would enter s3.zetaboards.com in this box.
    1. In the first box, labelled Host:, you may set the value to whatever subdomain you'd like to use. For example, entering “forums” in this box would create a “forums.yourdomain.com” subdomain.

Finally, remember to click the SAVE Changes button to lock in your changes.

This tutorial assumes that you have left the default nameservers set to NameCheap (If you don't know what this means, you probably don't need to worry).

Please allow 24 hours for your new DNS settings to propagate.
