Domain Setup: GoDaddy

Posted Image

This tutorial assumes that you have left the default nameservers set to GoDaddy's (If you don't know what this means, you probably don't need to worry).
  • To get started, log into your GoDaddy account, and visit the “My Products” section.
  • You should then see a list of products within your account. See screenshot (Click to enlarge):

  • From here, click on the DNS button next to the domain you'd like to add to your board.

Using your Whole Domain

If you wish to point your whole domain (Such as yourdomain.com) to your board, as opposed to using a subdomain (Such as forums.yourdomain.com), follow the steps below. If you're wanting to use a subdomain (Such as “forums.yourdomain.com”), skip to the Using a Subdomain section.

  • You will see a list of “Records”. Click on the Add button at the bottom.

  • When asked to select a “TYPE” - choose A .
  • Next it will ask you for the “HOST” - enter the @ symbol.
  • For the “POINTS TO” box - enter the IP Address of the server your zIFBoards or ZetaBoard's board is hosted on. You can find the appropriate IP Address on the Server IP List.
  • Leave the TTL option as it is.
  • Click Finish once you've entered the IP Address.
These steps are all you need to ensure “yourdomain.com” can be added to your forum's Admin CP (in the Domain Manager), but if you also want “www.yourdomain.com” to work, you will need to perform one more step - see below!

Getting "www" Working / Using a Subdomain

To get a subdomain working (i.e. “forums.yourdomain.com”) or if you want to have “www.yourboard.com” access your forum also, you can repeat the above steps, except when it asks you to enter a “HOST”, you can enter “forums” or “www” depending on what you want to use. You can have multiple subdomains pointing to the same forum and working at the same time.

See the below example:

  • in this example, I am setting up a subdomain “forums.myboard.com” which points to the server my forum is hosted on.

And Finally...

  • Once you have completed the above, try adding your domain “yourdomain.com” or “forums.yourdomain.com” to your Domain Manager in your forum's Admin CP.
  • You shouldn't need to wait more than 24 hours and your domain should be good to go!
  • If you encounter any difficulties or get stuck, please feel free to open a Support Ticket from your Admin CP.
