Domain Setup: CPanel

This guide will show you how to use CPanel to create and point a subdomain to your zIFBoards or ZetaBoards board. If you would rather use a full domain name instead of a subdomain, you should set it up through your domain registrar and not through CPanel.

Only CPanel 11.25 or later have the Simple DNS Zone Editor. If you are using an earlier version of CPanel, you will need to contact your web host to set up your DNS record.

Log into CPanel and find the Domains section. Click the Simple DNS Zone Editor button:

Select the domain on which the subdomain will be based. So if you want to point forums.example.com to your board, select example.com:

If you do not see the drop-down menu shown in the following image, simply move on to the next step.

Go to the Add a CNAME Record section:

  1. In the Name field, enter the name of the subdomain you want to create. For example, if you want to point forums.example.com to your board, enter forums
  2. In the CNAME field, enter the server name of your ZetaBoards or zIFBoards board. This is in the form s#.zetaboards.com or z#.zIFBoards.com, where # is the server number.
  3. Click Add CNAME Record

It may take up to 24 hours for these changes to take effect. Wait until you see one of the following messages when you visit your subdomain:

This domain is successfully pointing to ZetaBoards server s1 and can be added to your Domain Manager in your Admin Control Panel.

(Where “ZetaBoards server s1” is the server on which your board is hosted).

This domain is not setup for an zIFBoards.com board.

When you see either of these messages, depending on the service you use, your subdomain is ready.
