Group Settings

This documentation applies to ZetaBoards only.

This page explains all of the settings available when editing user groups.

General Settings

Option Name Type Description
Group Name Text Field The group name field lets you define your group. This name will appear on the active user legend key if members of the group are online.
Group Icon Drop Down An optional setting used to apply different picture icons to groups. Icons are placed under a user's avatar and member title. To upload an icon, go to the Titles page of the Users & Groups section.
Group Permissions Menu The permission sets applied to users in this group. Hold down the `Ctrl` key to select multiple sets. This setting may be overridden for individual users or by joinable group permissions.
Prefix Text Field This field is used to format the group key and online users apart of the group in the active user list. Only BBCode may be used in this field. The prefix field is used for opening tags such as [b] or [u]. Learn more about changing group colours.
Suffix Text Field This field is used to format the group key and online users apart of the group in the active user list. Only BBCode may be used in this field. The suffix field is used for closing tags such as [/b] or [/u].
Group is visible in the member list Yes/No Answer Toggles the display of users in the member list.

Permissions

Option Name Type Description
View board Yes/No Answer If set to 'No', members apart of this group will not be able to view or post on your forum.
Use offline board Yes/No Answer Setting this to 'Yes' will allow members of the group to be able to use your board in the event you turn it offline. This option is best left to 'no', with the exception of staff groups.
View member profiles Yes/No Answer Decides whether or not users apart of the group will be able to view profiles of other members.
View topics created by other members Yes/No Answer If set to 'no' members apart of this group will be unable to view the topics or posts of other users. This option is best for groups such as banned members“.
Can email other members Yes/No Answer Allows members of the group to send e-mails to other members of the forum if set to 'yes'.
Limit to x emails per day Number Field If the “Can email other members” option is set to 'yes', then you can control how many e-mails the group will be allowed to send with this option.
Can send PMs to other members Yes/No Answer Decides whether or not the group will be allowed to use your forum's PM system to send messages.
Can receive PMs from members Yes/No Answer Decides whether or not the group will be allowed to use your forum's PM system to receive messages.
Limit to x PMs per day Number Field If the “Can send PMs to other members” option is set to 'Yes', then this field will allow you to control the number of PMs each member of the group will be allowed to send per day.
Bypass word filter Yes/No Answer If set to 'Yes', users of this group will not have word filtered posts.
Can post comments to blog entries Yes/No Answer This option can be used to grant or deny permission to users of the group when posting comments on blog entries.

Posting Permissions

Option Name Type Description
Post new topics Yes/No Answer Allows/Disallows the user group to post new topics.
Post in own topics Yes/No Answer Allows/Disallows the user group to post replies in topics that they have created.
Post in others' topics Yes/No Answer Allows/Disallows the user group to add replies to a topic that another user has started.
Post in closed topics Yes/No Answer If set to 'Yes', users of this group will be able to post in a topic that an admin or moderator has closed. This option is best used only for staff groups.
Create polls Yes/No Answer Allows/Disallows the user group to attach polls to their threads when posting a new topic.
Vote in polls Yes/No Answer Controls whether or not a user group will be allowed to vote in polls they or another group have created.
Bypass 30 second post flood control Yes/No Answer If set to 'Yes', the user group will not be affected by flood control on your forum.
Avoid moderation approval Yes/No Answer If set to 'Yes', the user group will have the ability to skip past the moderation approval step if “moderation approval” has been turned on for a specific forum.
Can opt out of displaying edit notice Yes/No Answer Toggles the ability for the user group to remove the “Edited by:” legend after editing a post.
Delete own posts Yes/No Answer Allows/Disallows the user group to delete posts they have created.
Close Topics Yes/No Answer Allows/Disallows the user group to close topics they have created.
Change own topic title and/or description Yes/No Answer If set to 'Yes', the user group will be allowed to alter their topic title and description, even after the topic has been started.
Delete own topics Yes/No Answer Allows/Disallows the user group to delete topics they have created.
Create calendar events Yes/No Answer Toggles the ability for users apart of the group to add events to the forum's calendar.
Edit own posts Yes/No Answer Toggles the ability for the user group to edit their own posts.
Can be warned? Yes/No Answer If set to 'No', users apart of the group will not be allowed to receive warnings from administrators or moderators of your forum.
Allow edits only in first x minutes Number Field Restricts the user from editing a post after a certain amount of time has passed. Entering the number '0' will not restrict the editing of posts.

Profile Settings

Option Name Type Description
Can edit profile Yes/No Answer Decides whether or not users in the group will be allowed to edit the information located in their profile.
Can edit signature Yes/No Answer If set to 'No', users apart of this group will not be allowed to edit their signature.
Can change avatars Yes/No Answer Toggles the ability for users in the group to be able to upload avatars.
Can change photo Yes/No Answer Toggles the ability for users in the group to be able to upload a person photo to their profile.

Upload Settings

Option Name Type Description
Can upload an avatar image Yes/No Answer If set to 'Yes', users will be allowed to upload an image from their computer to use as their avatar. The other method is posting an image from a URL.

Automatic Promotions

Option Name Type Description
Promote to: Drop Down Menu Can be used to automatically move a user into another group. Works with the “Promote when a member reaches:” option below it.
Promote when a member reaches: Number Field Promotes a user into the selected group when they reach x number of posts.
Zetaboards offers you a myriad of different possibilities and combination of settings when creating groups! Remember: Some groups are better off with fewer permissions than others. Users in a banned group should have less permissions than those of your staff member groups.
