Create a New Forum

This documentation applies to ZetaBoards only.

New Category

Categories are containers that hold the forums in your board. You must create at least one category before you can create a new forum.

Under the Forum Sections section of the Admin CP, select Create Sections and then Category.

Enter the Category Name, which may be up to 200 characters in length. Click Create Category. The Forum Specific Skin option is optional. Much like setting a specific theme for a forum, you can see a specific theme for when viewing the single category.

Categories will not be visible on the board index until you place at least one forum within them.

Normal Forum

This page allows you to create a new, regular forum in which users can post (provided they have the proper permissions).

From the Create Sections area, select Normal Forum and fill out the options.

Forum Setup

  • Place forum in. Choose the category or forum that will contain this forum.
  • Forum Name. The name of the forum, up to 200 characters.
  • Forum Description. A brief description of the forum's purpose. You may use HTML.
  • Posting Status controls whether or not anyone can make new posts in the forum. When set to Read-Only, no one can edit existing posts or make new posts, regardless of the permissions.
  • Moderate forum. Choose whether moderators must approve new topics, new replies, or both, before they appear to all users.
  • Allow posts. If set to No, then users cannot post in this forum. It simply functions like a category, as a container for other forums.
  • Allow BBCode use. Set this to No to stop users from using BBCode in posts in this forum.
  • Allow polls. Set this to No to stop users from posting polls in this forum.
  • Poll votes bump topic. If set to Yes, then a topic will be bumped to the top of the list when someone votes in its poll, even if there are no new posts.
  • Posts count towards a user's personal count. If set to No, users' post counts do not increase as they post in this forum.
  • Fast replies can be made toggles whether or not the fast reply box is enabled in this forum.
  • Forum Password. Setting a password to a forum prevents users from accessing it unless they have the password. Leave this blank to set no password. This method should not be used for securing a forum–use permission masks instead.
  • Topic display cutoff. Control how far back the topic list should go. Topics older than this date are not deleted, rather, just hidden until you manually adjust the setting while browsing the forum. Forever means no topics will be hidden.
  • Sort topics by. Select the default sort method for the topic list in this forum.
  • Sort Order. Select the default sort order for the topic list.
  • Custom Topic Option. Add a custom field to topics that allows the topic creator to choose from a list of predefined options.

Forum Permissions

Select the permissions for the permission masks in use on your board:

  • View allows users to see that the forum exists.
  • Read allows users to read all topics in the forum.
  • Reply allows users to post replies to existing topics.
  • Start allows users to start new topics.
  • Upload allows users to upload files, if their user group allows it.

Redirection Forum

A redirection forum allows you to redirect users to another website (or even elsewhere on the board) using a conspicuous forum-sized link.

From the Create Sections area, select Redirection Forum and fill out the options.

Forum Settings

  • Place forum in. Choose the category or forum that will contain this forum.
  • Forum Name. The name of the forum, up to 200 characters.
  • Forum Description. A brief description of the forum's purpose. You may use HTML.
  • Redirect to URL. The URL to which users go when they click on the forum name.
  • Redirection Type controls whether the forum uses the same window or opens the link in a new window.

Forum Permissions

Redirection forums simply redirect users to other places. As a result, there is no need for read, reply, start, and upload permissions, since there are no topics in a redirection forum. The only permission setting is the View option.

Special Data Feed

A special data feed forum allows you to view special parts of your board as forums on the board index. You can choose the category in which to place this forum and give it a custom name. You can also control which permission sets can view the forum.

Data Feeds

  • Report CP. Redirects to the Report CP. Displays the number of reported posts and PMs where topics and replies usually show up.
  • Calendar. Redirects to the Calendar. Displays upcoming events where the latest post usually shows up.
  • Shoutbox. Displays the shoutbox in that category. (The shoutbox will still display at the bottom of the board index if this option is enabled.)
  • Online Users. Displays the users and group who are online. Displays the number of logged-in and anonymous users where topics and replies usually show up.
